Bontoc

Bontoc, the capital town was once dubbed by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as “Home of the Fearless and Sturdy People.” At present, the Local Government calls the place “Ili ay Kalalalychan” (“Beloved Hometown”) which is home to the rice terraces in barangays Alab, Dalican, Bontoc Ili, Guina-ang, Maligcong and Bayyo. Like other rice terraces in the province, these age-old structures were constructed by way of carving the mountain sides and reinforced by stonewalls which defines and differentiates these from the rice terraces in other nearby provinces.
